English Netting Bridesmaid Dresses

The fabric used in English Netting bridesmaid dresses is synonymous with extravagance. It is soft to touch and very pliable. As a sheer fabric, this type of tulle is made from pure cotton with interlocking hexagons. The fabric is commonly used for special occasions and especially weddings. English netting bridesmaid dresses may be complemented by bridal veils and trims of the same fabric.

The fabric is also recommended for lace edging, insertion and machine lace making. An easy way to create machine lace is to use the sewing machine’s decorative stitches and English net as the background. It is also used as the base fabric for various needlework including tambour lace and Filet lace. [Continue reading..]

English net is one fabric any bridesmaid would be happy to wear as it feels soft and nice against the skin.

English Netting and its Uses in Weddings

Lightweight and soft to touch, English net has small holes and not as stiff compared with standard polyester or nylon net which will never get softer despite numerous washing.

The use of English net in weddings are not limited only to the dresses of bridesmaids and the veil of the bride. There are many decorative uses of this fabric in weddings. For one it can be used to accessorize a cake table. Because English netting is soft to touch and pliable, it floats, flows, and drapes easily.

It can also be an accent to high-impact fabrics such as organza.  It is interesting to note that English net is easier to mold and would be perfect to use for wedding giveaways and favors.

During the wedding ceremony, the fabric can be draped along the aisle to provide elegance to the setting. However, it is not advisable to use this fabric as outdoor decoration particularly in windy conditions.

During a wedding reception, yards of English net can be used to decorate the venue to make it look romantic and festive. One set up idea is to attach one end of the English net to the ceiling, let it fall down to the ground and then loop the fabric back up. Repeat this pattern as many times as the length of the fabric will allow.

Another attractive decorating idea is to hang English netting from the ceilings and walls of the venue and create a backdrop of Gerber daisies and stargazers.

English Net vs. Other Fabrics for Veils

Brides have many fabrics to choose from for their wedding veils. Aside from the English net, bridal illusion, organza, chiffon and silk tulle are also among the favorites. But what is the difference between these fabrics?

Because of its soft texture, English net drapes beautifully and is also transparent. Which is the best choice for single tiered veils. On the other hand, chiffon is also soft and flowing but is a non-translucent fabric.

Organza is semi-translucent and comes in nylon, synthetic polyester and silk fabric. Meanwhile, many designers preferred to use the bridal illusion fabric for veils. It is a soft tulle made from pure nylon. It is translucent and looks good on photographs.

Silk tulle may drape elegantly but it is not a fabric commonly used for veils because of its delicate nature. The fabric is not 100 percent silk as it blends with polyester to create sheerness and softness and some stretch.
